Our student partnership with a Beijing, China school
Lake Shore is proud to have a special partnership with a school in Beijing, China. In 2008, students from China came to our district and stayed in host families’ homes. In April of 2009, Lake Shore students went to China and stayed in the dormitories of our partner school.
Lake Shore Public Schools has invested in extensive teacher training with Susan Kovalik, a nationally renowned researcher on the brain as it relates to teaching and learning. This training has resulted in teachers who understand “how the brain learns,” which has led to outstanding success in the classroom.
Lake Shore teachers continually translate brain research into the classroom by implementing the Nine Bodybrain-Compatible Elements of Susan Kovalik’s ITI Model. On a daily basis students in our classrooms experience:
In addition to these high caliber classroom strategies, Lake Shore has also implemented Professional Learning Communities as a means of ensuring that all students are reaching grade level benchmarks.
All K-12 Lake Shore teachers meet in grade level/content area teams bi-monthly to discuss the progress of individual students, the effectiveness of lessons, trends in student data, and intervention strategies for struggling students. This collaborative process allows teachers the time and resources to focus their instruction so it meets the needs of each and every student.
Lake Shore understands the vital role that technology plays in the lives of our students and that the knowledge and ability to use technology will be critical to our students’ success as adults. At Lake Shore technology is infused into daily classroom instruction in a variety of ways.
For many consecutive years, Lake Shore was the only district in our state to have both a high school and middle school jazz band to qualify to appear in the Detroit International Jazz Festival, held annually over Labor Day weekend.
Lake Shore is the only district in Macomb County to have a sister school in Beijing, China! Because of this partnership, 18 students from China visited Lake Shore last winter and 24 Lake Shore students traveled to China last spring.
We know our students will be faced with a global economy as adults. We strive to provide them with cultural and language experiences that will prepare them for the future. Lake Shore offers Spanish, German and Mandarin Chinese courses beginning at the middle school level. Students also have the opportunity to travel to Spain, Germany, and China as part of these classes.
Elementary students enjoy roller skating in their physical education classes.
Lake Shore offers many competitive sports and extracurricular activities.
